Another “I love how God works” Incident

Last night was this year’s first Women’s Guild meeting. We needed a door unlocked so I went looking for Eve, our “Church housekeeper”, but I couldn’t find her. I walked outside to see if she was there and/or to find Michael, our Security Officer. I saw a security vehicle and walked up to it, but it wasn’t Michael. It was a gentleman I have never met. When we walked back into the Church, there was Eve. I was frustrated because it was so HOT outside. I silently complained – Really Lord? When I got home, I kind of chuckled because with what transpired after the meeting, I realized He had answered – yes, really –

I was the only one left. Normally I check my messages when I get to the car, but pulled out my phone and started checking them. In walks the Officer. He sits down and starts talking. I am not exactly sure what he said that caused me to ask, but I asked if he was Catholic. He said no. I asked where he attended church. He answered nowhere right now and proceeded to explain his experiences and what he was looking for in a Church. I could tell he was searching for more, so I invited him to Alpha. He was receptive to the idea.

For the next 20 or so minutes we delved into the differences between Protestants and Catholics. Main topic, of course, was the Eucharist. He threw the “in memory of Me” line at me. My response got him to thinking. As the conversation went on, he said, “I’ve always wondered about Catholics”. Well, of course, then I had to tell him about RCIA. I assured him that it was not a commitment to convert, but rather an opportunity to learn what we believe and why we believe it; that it was the best way to really find out.

I truly believe there is no such thing as a coincidence. The Holy Spirit was in complete control. This officer had gotten a last minute call to cover at St. Louis. I didn’t find Eve (although she was there) forcing me to go outside, which led me to approach this officer. He had filled in several times before, yet I had never met him. This fact led to a conversation while we walked back in. That conversation made him feel comfortable enough to approach me after the meeting which led to the ensuing conversation.

Because of the uncertainty going on with his employer, he may or may not be able to attend Alpha or RCIA this go round, but the seeds have been planted. I am sure the Holy Spirit is not done with him yet. I am just grateful that he used me to be His sower!
