The Sorrowful Mysteries
The Agony in the Garden
My Jesus! Throughout Your life, You experienced every pain that we could possibly experience – but more intensely. Ever so much in the Garden! Fear and anxiety, loneliness and rejection, desertion and betrayal. You were not satisfied with just offering physical pain to the Father, but mental and emotional pain also. Our good shepherds strive to deal with the mental and emotional pain of a Church and especially our Diocese torn apart. Let them remember Your Agony and call out to the Father in supplication and acceptance for His Will and then move forward with rebuilding and reuniting Your Church and our Diocese.
The Scourging
Holy One! We are told that You revealed You had to suffer the Scourging because of our immoral and unscrupulous acts. How great is our sin, but how much greater is Your Sacrifice. Please guide your chosen servants to act with great humility, honesty, selflessness, and integrity.
The Crowning with Thorns
Suffering God, we show so little respect, reverence, true worship so often, putting ourselves above others and even above You. We drive the thorns into Your Sacred Head every time we act without humility, every time we act without compassion, every time we put ourselves first, or dare to think we are closer to You than another. As our good Fathers meet, may they call upon Your Holy Spirit to know Your desires for our Church and Diocese. Let them put others first. Let them truly listen to each other and let them respect each other as Your chosen ones, but above all, may they recognize that she is Your Church and that they too are Yours.
The Carrying of the Cross
Persevering Savior! The burden You carried for our sake is indescribable, but You did so out of Love for us. Your holy Priests often carry the burden of not only their own crosses, but the crosses of Your people. Let them not be discouraged or fail to rise from their falls. Rather, let them remember the love they have for You and the Love you have for us. Then, let them joyfully lift those crosses onto their shoulders and accept them in their hearts to persevere in Your service for our sake.
The Crucifixion
Oh Thirsting One – How You thirst for us! You died even to Yourself in obedience and humility. You sacrificed Your very life for Love of us and Love of the Father. Let us offer our suffering to You and emulate You in every way. If we cannot physically die for you, let us at least join you in dying to ourselves.
