After the announcement of Bishop Holley’s forced retirement many have expressed they feel vindicated. Let’s look at the definition:
- Cleared of blame or suspicion
- Shown or proven to be right, reasonable, or justified.
Because some got their way, the Diocese has been torn apart and divided once again. Many charities, parishes, people, programs were denied the assistance they count on from the Diocese just so they could prove their point or so they could force their opinions and wants onto the Administration. They feel “vindicated” from the unChristian upheaval, disruption, pain, and chaos that has occurred because through their self-righteous determination, it was/is worth it; they had to do what they did – including withholding their “God mandated tithing”, so that they would be heard. I declare B.S.
If they are somehow vindicated, then I weep for our future.
This is not a commentary on the actions that were taken against Bishop Holley. I had very mixed opinions about some things he did/did not do. I have no idea what was in his heart. I have determined to stop referring to people as “holy” or “good” because I do not know what that means any more. I simply trust (thanks to someone who I continue to hope is good and holy by God’s standards). I continue to thank Him for His Providence and know that He is in control; that He will make good out of bad, saints out of evil ones.
I was going to say more, but I think I will just leave it at this:
If the reasons monies were withheld are sincerely so that voices would be heard, so that the actions some decided were best would be taken, and if, vindication has been awarded, then the Offertory Reports should reflect double or triple donations (not including 2nd collections) when they are published for this past week. The Bishops Annual Appeal should also experience a major influx.
But I suspect other excuses will now arise, as we suffer through more “vindicating” actions. I suspect that I will continue to cry “Tears for Memphis”. https://blessedadorer.wordpress.com/2017/07/12/tears-for-memphis
