Did God deliberately blur the line?

As I sat in Adoration yesterday, I was thinking about many situations that both my friends and I have been through in recent days, months, years.  I thought about 2 aspects.

1.  Where is the line between supporting a person and condoning their actions.
2.  Can that line move depending on the situation

I came to the conclusion that neither of these are easy to answer.  Then I wondered – Did God deliberately blur the line?

Before you go ballistic – pls keep reading and then give it prayerful consideration.

If the line is clear and concise – why did Jesus say the greatest commandments are to love God with all your heart and to love your neighbor?   Are not all the commandments based on this premise?  Then, again, if there is a definitive line, why didn’t He just say you must obey all of them.

I propose that maybe, just maybe, His intent was for us not to be like the Pharisees who preached the rules without understanding the intent (and then in a lot of cases did not even follow the rules themselves).  I  am thinking it was rather to always remember the two greatest commandments first and then act accordingly.

I offer you this very simple and basic example to consider:

You have a friend who, let’s just say, likes to “have a good time”.  You are at a party and this friend begins to regale the group with a tale of their latest encounter.  You stay and participate in the laughter and jokes – are you being supportive or are you giving the impression that you are condoning their actions? Is it better to just politely say, “I will catch up with you later”, and walk away?

This same person begins telling the story but you notice they are not laughing.  You sense it does not have a happy ending so you stay and listen.  In this situation, are you being supportive or are you giving the impression that you are condoning their actions?  Wouldn’t walking away in this scenario be breaking one of the 2 greatest commandments?

There are a lot heavier and more complicated examples, but I will just leave you with that one for now.

So, now I ask you – Did God deliberately blur the line out of love for ALL of us and so we can share that love?
